John Olaf Olson, 70, of Newton died on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the First Christian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends following the service with a coffee time at the church. Memorials to the First Christian Church or Avalon Hospice may be left at the church or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
John was born November 21, 1950, in Creston, Iowa to Vincent E. and Darlene E. (O’Riley) Olson. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1969 and enlisted in the Navy in 1969 serving as a Machinist Mate and receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and Disciples of Christ. John enjoyed woodworking, bicycling with friends, and camping. John retired from truck driving after 30+ years of driving for Jimmy Dean, TMC, American Freightway and most recently FedEx. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Diana; children, Wendy Bollhoefer of Ames, Jeromy Olson of Bridgewater, Rob (Candace) Warner of Pella, Corey (Karen) Warner of Acworth, Georgia, and Jeff (Toni) Warner of Gardner, Kansas; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandson; his siblings, Ted (Peggy) Olson of Mitchellville, Dorothy Dick of Fairborn, Ohio, and Sue Phipps of Independence, Missouri; and his many nieces and nephews.
