Jon C Mahl

Jon Christopher Mahl, 57, of Newton died on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Newton Union Cemetery.  Memorials in Jon’s name (checks to Tim Mahl) may be left at the graveside or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Jon, the son of Ron and Nancy (McPherren) Mahl, was born on July 2, 1965 in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1984.  He later would attend a trade school studying electronics in Texas.  Jon lived in many locations including Washington and Texas before moving back to Iowa over 10 years ago.  Jon was a jack of all trades, but his favorite jobs were working for landscaping companies.  He most recently worked for the Gates Corporation in Newton. Jon was an avid sports fans and enjoyed cheering on the Boston Bruins, Kansas City Chiefs, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jon is survived by his mother, Nancy (John) Paschal of Grapevine, Texas; siblings, Tim (Amy) Mahl of Newton, Amy (Brent) Gregurek of Johnston, Matt Mahl of Vancouver, Washington, Steve (Christine) Mahl of Bend, Oregon, and Amanda (Greg) Perry of Little Elm, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Ron (Donna) Mahl; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
