Joni Lynn Vest, 61, of Newton, died Monday, June 30, 2025, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Joni, the daughter of Edward F., Sr. and Eleanor (Feist) Webb, was born June 29, 1964, in Gary, Indiana. She grew up in Gary and then in Merrillville. In 1988, she moved to Iowa, where she had lived in the Tama/Toledo area and in Montezuma. She moved to Newton in 2015. Joni worked at Montezuma Manufacturing for 23 years and then worked at Gates Corp. for almost 6 years until her health forced her to stop working. Joni had a tight circle of friends whom she loved spending time with. Joni enjoyed painting, bead work, and any sort of crafting. Together with her husband, James, she enjoyed riding Harley, going to concerts, taking trips to Colorado, and spending time with their kids and grandkids.
Joni is survived by her husband, James Sutton, Sr. of Newton; her children, Jennica Vest of Ames and James Vest, Jr. (Mychala Larkin) of Newton; her stepchildren: James Sutton, Jr., Brandon Sutton, Jacob Sutton (McKinna), Joseph Sutton, Angel Cozad, and Jonathan Sutton; her grandchildren: Kyren, Addison, Noah, Tyler, Maggie, Fiona, Astrid, and Leland; her siblings: Ed (Kimberly) Webb, Kathy (John) Kinder, Yvonne (Joseph) Toussaint, and Peter Webb; and many nieces and nephews. Joni was preceded in death by her parents.
