Joseph Henderson Obituary

Joseph “Joe” E. Henderson, 94, of Newton died on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at Newton Health Care.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, at Newton Union Cemetery.  After the graveside the family will greet friends with a luncheon at the Kellogg American Legion.  Memorials to Suncrest Hospice may be left at the graveside or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. 

Joe, the youngest of six children, was born to Andy and Bertha (Warren) Henderson, on May 26, 1926 in rural Lovila.  He attended Lovila schools.  Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. On May 29, 1952, Joe was united in marriage with Joan Etta Baker in Newton. He worked at the VA Hospital, John Deere, Morrells, and then at the Maytag Company, where he retired from in 1987.  Joe and Joan enjoyed wintering in Texas for 17 years.  Joe also enjoyed camping and traveling.

Joe is survived by his wife, Joan Henderson of Newton; daughters, Jan Tedrow and Marcia Winningham (Randall Smith), both of Kellogg; grandchildren, Andrew (Mollie) Winningham, Kalie Winningham (Keith Braden), Madison Winningham (Del Morris), and Angie Henderson (Jon Arends); great-grandchildren, Kristen and Emily Henderson, Jay and Jerrica McGuire, Autumn Engle, and Braylyn Winningham; great-great-grandchildren, Liam Brummer and Jordyn Hurford; and his brother, Paul (Jean) Henderson of Ottumwa.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert (Wilma) Henderson and Ernest (Phyllis) Henderson; and sisters, Evelyn Duncan (Lee Thompson) and Maxine (Leo) Chance.
