Joseph "Joe" Deutsch Obituary

Joseph A Deutsch of Newton passed away July 20, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Newton.  The family will greet friends after the service at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  Memorials to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses may be left at the service.

Joe was born on March 25, 1930. He was the son of Arthur and Mildred Deutsch. He grew up farming and loved the land. He attended Iowa State University until drafted into the Marines. He married Beverly Milburn on July 29, 1952.  Bev and Joe lived on the base in North Carolina during the Korean conflict. When that ended, they moved back to farm his father’s land outside of Baxter, IA. A year later they bought their own farm in Monroe so had a commute between two farms! It was there that they raised their family.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Beverly; his only brother, William Deutsch; sister-in-law ,Barbara Deutsch; and a twin sister at birth. 

Joe married Mary Brodene on December 31, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Mary Deutsch; daughter, Linda Deutsch; son, Carl Deutsch and his wife, Dominique; daughter, Debbie Gates and her husband, Shane; daughter, Connie McGarrah and her husband, Eric; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Joe was known for always having a twinkle in his eye, and a great love for his God Jehovah. He was a member of the Newton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was well-loved by all.
