Judy, the daughter of Lester and Beatrice (Willemsen) Beyer, was born on July 13, 1945. She grew up and attended school in rural Jasper County. Her family would move into Newton prior to Judy graduating from Newton High School in 1963. That same year, Judy was united in marriage with Bob Russell, and they would spend the next 25 years raising their daughter, Debbie, together. They lived just outside of Norwalk in Echo Valley. Judy had a successful corporate sales career in a male dominated field with Rath Packing and Fontanini Foods. After moving back to Newton in 1989, she continued in sales, selling real estate for Iowa Realty and Advantage Realty. At that same time, she worked at the Jasper County Auditor’s office. On December 7, 1996, Judy was united in marriage with Thomas Ogier at the Community Reformed Church in Newton.
Judy was a member of the Newton Church of the Way and an “unofficial” Red Hat Lady with her friend, Fran Bolton. She was also very close to her cousins on her mom’s side including, Carolyn Van Waardhuizen, Janice Kaisand, and Linda Latcham. Judy loved playing cards and going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities including soccer, football, and tennis.
