Julie, the daughter of Harris and Betty (Hulse) Van Genderen, was born December 24, 1961, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1980 and then attended DMACC for criminal justice. She also received her EMT certification and attended Mercy College of Health Sciences for her Paramedic certification.  Julie was united in marriage with Daniel McPherren on June 16, 1983, in Newton.  Julie made a career out of serving and caring for others.  She was a Reserve Officer with the Newton Police Department, before moving to Grinnell. In Grinnell, she worked as an EMT and worked her way up to Paramedic, while also serving as a Reserve Officer with the Grinnell Police Department.  Most recently, Julie had been working as a Campus Safety Officer at Grinnell College. She had been an original board member of both the national and Iowa chapters of C.O.P.S. Julie was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, camping, playing with her pack of dogs, reading, and contemplating life on her front porch swing.

Julie is survived by her son, Daniel McPherren, Jr. of Grinnell; her “adopted son”, Jon Sadler of Grinnell; her grandchildren, Daniel Mark McPherren III and Maggie Mae McPherren; her step-children, Michael McPherren of Des Moines and Nicole (Scott) Crawford of Clive and their families; her uncle and aunt, Fred and Nancy Fuller; cousin, Kathy Filler; her girl gang: Terry Elliott, Mary Cook, Sharon Fane, and Brandie Sebeniecher; many other friends she considered to be family; and all her animals.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Daniel.

"I hope you will remember me when you see the snow falling." --Julie
