Karen Eileen Sherratt, 77, of Newton died on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at The Cottages in Pella. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, at Newton Union Cemetery. The family will greet friends with a coffee time from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials to an Animal Rescue League of the Donor’s Choice may be left at the graveside service or at the funeral home.
Karen, the daughter of Ransom and Virginia (Gauch) Bucklin, was born on March 21, 1947 in Marshalltown. She was raised in Baxter before moving to Newton in the 6th grade. Karen graduated in the Class of 1965 from Newton High School. On December 26, 1964, Karen was united in marriage with Glen Sherratt in Knoxville. They made their home in Newton; where Karen was a homemaker raising their two children, Jodie and Tony. Karen never had a driver’s license, but also never missed an event She was a natural caregiver which was evident in time spent with her kids and grandkids, taking care of others in need, and her many visits to local nursing homes to chat with the residents. Karen also enjoyed reading, sunbathing, and going on walks.
Karen is survived by her husband, Glen Sherratt of Newton; children, Jodie (Rod) Ray and Tony (Laura) Sherratt, all of Newton; her grandchildren, Jordan (Shannon) Ray of Urbandale and Rowen Sherratt of Newton; great-grandchild, Korbin Ray and one more great-grandchild on the way; and her siblings, Benny (Mariea) Bucklin of Baxter and Faye (David) Maxwell of Wasilla, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry Bucklin.
