Kathleen L. (Shepard) Green

   Kathleen Louise Green, 77, of Newton, died Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to an animal rescue organization of the donor’s choice can be left at the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.

   Kathy, the daughter of Charles and Josephine (nee Thomas) Shepard, was born November 25, 1947, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1966. Kathy pursued her higher education at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a degree in Home Economics. She spent most of her career working at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance.  Kathy was united in marriage with Ron Green on January 25, 1975, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Newton.  The couple were longtime members of the Newton Elks Lodge. Kathy also enjoyed bowling on several teams over the years.  Kathy enjoyed searching for and collecting antiques throughout her adult life—her expertise evidenced by her exquisite taste. Her home was warm and inviting. Kathy and Ron were the best of hosts, a testimony to the many friends and family who delighted in gathering there. Kathy and Ron spent many fun-filled years together until Ron’s death in 2022.

   Kathy is survived by her sister, Karen Gulling of Newton; her siblings-in-law, Marilyn Lamb and Denny Green, both of Newton; her nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Gulling Andrews of Newton, Kim (Rob) Meyer of Baxter, Jill Anderson of Newton, Jon Lamb of Newton, Justina (Thad) Loeb of West Des Moines, Brandon (Angie) Green of St. Paul, MN, Natalie (Anthony) O’Harra of Newton, Erin Suttek (Trent) and Ryan Meyer; and her dog, Bob Barker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ron; her parents-in-law, Russell and Dorothy Green; and her brother, Charles E. Shepard.
