Kayleen, the daughter of Wilbur and Donna Hunter, was born April 14, 1949, in Colfax. She attended Colfax schools. She was united in marriage with F. Dean Alter on October 26, 1968, in Unionville, MO. She had worked at Midwest Manufacturing and later worked at Walmart. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, crocheting and vegetable gardening.

Kayleen is survived by her children: Francis Dean (Tina) Alter, Jr. of Aledo, IL, Richard (Stephanie) Alter of Newton, Anthony (Amy) Alter of Newton, and Ramey (Amanda) Alter of Grinnell; her grandchildren: Francis Dean “DJ” Alter III, Christopher Alter, Elizabeth Alter, Corbin Alter, Autumn Alter, Chelsea Alter, Taylor Alter, Josie Jacobs, Jessica Jacobs, Bronson Alter, and Shevi Alter; her great-grandchildren: Zoey, Cason, Addison, and Shevi; and her brother, Norm (Linda) Hunter of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; son, Lenny; and sister, Kathy Duncan.
