Kevin Eugene Stepanek, 63, of Newton died on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Maytag Park South Shelter. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kevin’s name (checks made payable to Kandran Stepanek or Seaira Stepanek Boiko) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Kevin, the son of Charles Joseph and Mildred Helen (Nekola) Stepanek, was born on November 15, 1958 in Grinnell. He grew up with his four brothers on the family's dairy and grain farm near Grinnell. Kevin graduated from Grinnell High School in 1977. Kevin worked at Manatt's for 15 years as a Paver and Lowboy Operator, hauling equipment to and from job sites. He was united in marriage with Sara Hansen on June 1, 1985 in Kellogg. They made their home in Newton; welcoming two children, Kandran and Seaira. Kevin loved being a dad and enjoyed spending time with his children. As a family, they took yearly boating trips to Okoboji and went skiing in Breckenridge. Kevin enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, riding his Harley, bowling, and old muscle cars. He also was very handy and liked doing remodeling and home improvement type projects. Since his children have been adults, Kevin has loved traveling to spend time with them in New York and Chicago. With the birth of his only grandchild, Waylon Mae in 2018, Kevin received his favorite title from her; “you the best papa in the whole wide world.”
Kevin is survived by his children, Kandran Stepanek of Brooklyn, New York and Seaira (Tim) Stepanek Boiko of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter, Waylon Boiko; the mother of his children, Sara Stepanek of Newton; his siblings, Charlie (Mary) Stepanek of Grinnell, Rick (Kris) Stepanek of Grinnell, and Ron (Amy) Stepanek of Yale; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Darwin (Marlene) Stepanek.
