Kimberly “Kim” Sue Heimann, 78, of Newton died on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Newton Village. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorials to the Jasper County Museum or the Newton Arboretum may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Kim, the daughter of William and Grace (Bergstrom) Leinen, was born on November 24, 1947, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She grew up in Cedar Falls and graduated from Cedar Falls Price Laboratory High School in 1966. Kim then received a Teaching Degree from the University of Northern Iowa. On November 25, 1967, Kim was united in marriage with Raymond Heimann in Cedar Falls. They lived in Waverly until moving to Newton in 1974. Kim later received her master’s in teaching from Drake University. She worked for the Newton Community School District as a 2nd grade teacher, 3rd grade teacher, and Reading Specialist at Woodrow Wilson Elementary until her retirement in 2008.
Kim was a member of Delta Kappa, the Newton Retired Teachers, and the Tintinnabulation Handbell Ensemble. Kim enjoyed her Wednesday Coffee Group and spending time with her granddaughters. She always had a green thumb with both her inside house plants and outside wildflowers. She also loved her animals.
Kim is survived by her daughters, Christine Heimann of Newton and Sara Van Maaren (Eddie Ballesteros) of Newton; granddaughters, Kayley Van Maaren and Ava Van Maaren; her brother, Gary (Sarah) Leinen of Bozeman, Montana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray in 2022; and a brother Scott Leinen.
