Kurt Wayne Sparks, 50, of Baxter, died on Monday, May 25, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A public visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Social distancing guidelines will be strictly adhered to. A private family service will be held. Memorials to Kurt’s family (checks made to Kim Sparks) may be left at the funeral home.
Kurt, the son of LeRoy and Dana (Trusler) Sparks, was born on March 7, 1970 in Newton. Growing up he loved helping on his family farm by Baxter and with his family’s fertilizing business. On the farm, he enjoyed four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and riding ATVs. As a teen, Kurt was known in the area for his pool playing ability. He would play in area tournaments and also taught other people how to play. He was baptized into the Baxter UCC Church. Kurt was a graduate of Baxter High School in 1988. He attended the Ag Business and Auto Mechanic programs at DMACC. In May of 2000, Kurt joined the IBEW Local 347 Electrician Program and had worked as a Union Electrician ever since. On June 27, 2015, Kurt was united in marriage with Kim White in Newton. He was a people person and going anywhere with him would result in lengthy conversations with all the people he would know. Kurt also enjoyed riding his Harley.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Kim Sparks of Baxter; daughter, Madison Bunn of Newton; his siblings, Chet Sparks of Titusville, Florida and Shalia Sparks of Overland Park, Kansas; mother-in-law, Connie White of Newton; brother-in-law, Troy White (Danielle Smith) of Newton; niece, Jarica White (David Eilander) of Kellogg; and nephew, Brady Smith of Newton. He is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy Sparks and Dana Sparks; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Wanda Trusler; and paternal grandparents, Russell and Pauline Sparks.
