Lela Jean (Clipperton) Nichols

Lela Jean Nichols, 92, of Newton died on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Park Centre. No services will be held.  Memorials to Wesley Life Hospice or Willowbrook Adult Day Care may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lela, the daughter of Ernest and Irene (Godfrey) Clipperton, was born on August 24, 1931, in Hamilton. She grew up in Hamilton and graduated from Lovila High School. On February 19, 1949, Lela was united in marriage with Keith Nichols in Lovila. After their marriage they resided in Lovila until 1955 when they moved to Newton. Lela worked at the optometrist office of Dr. VanNote and Dr. DeCook in Newton. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and loved to play Bingo at the Moose Lodge.

Lela is survived by her children, Debbie (Gene) Knopf of Newton and Jeff (Debbie) Nichols of the Charlotte, North Carolina area; her grandchildren, Brandon Knopf, Tyler Nichols, Josh (Bonnie) Nichols, and Blaine (Emily) Nichols; great-grandchildren, Olivia Bebout and Jax Nichols; four siblings; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; grandson, Ahren Knopf; and five siblings.
