Jean's funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 12-1 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, at the funeral home. Memorials to Jasper County Elderly Nutrition can be left at the funeral home.
Jean Jones went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. She was 85 years old.
Jean was born May 21, 1936, at home near Unionville, Missouri, to Bessie (Bunnell) and William O’Brien, who preceded her in death. She was married to Robert Jones in August of 1972. She enjoyed nursing and being a part of the Iowa State Fair. She also loved crocheting, crafting with seashells, and John Wayne movies.
Surviving family includes three daughters: Shirley (Gary) Lester, Pam Lester, both of Newton, and Debbie Carman (companion, Ernie) of Amazonia, Missouri; two stepsons, Steven Jones and David (Renae) Jones, both of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Those preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Jones; son-in-law, John Carman; and grandson-in-law, Mike Hackathorn.
