Linda, the daughter of Clarence and Bessie (Little) Whigham, was born on May 27, 1947, in College Springs, Iowa. She grew up on her family’s Century Farm outside of College Springs and graduated in the College Springs Class of 1963. After high school, Linda moved to Des Moines where she would meet Larry Burgett. They were united in marriage on April 4, 1965, in College Springs. They made their home in Des Moines and Chariton, both for a short while before moving to Newton in 1967. Linda worked both as a CNA and in retail throughout her life. She was a CNA at Nelson Manor and worked retail at both Payless Shoes and later as the manager of the JC Penney’s Catalog Store, first in Newton and then in Marshalltown. She retired in 2012. Linda enjoyed old movies and collecting antiques. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and being an active part of her grandchildren’s lives.
Linda is survived by her husband, Larry Burgett of Newton; children, Michelle Herring (Bob Wisch) of Joliet, Illinois, Nicolle (Shawn) Hornberg of Boone, and Bradley Burgett of Newton; grandchildren, Alexandria (Nathan) Draper, Tanner Sandrock, Kurtlyn Sandrock, Seth Hornberg, Zoe Burgett, and Rowen Burgett; her great-grandchildren, Kaydn, Karynn, Kael, and Dailee; siblings, Phyllis (Garth) Van Fosson and Carolyn Carpenter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christine Anne Burgett; two sons-in-law, Kurtis Sandrock and Tom Herring; and seven siblings, Dean Whigham, Jean Clark, Dolores Shull, Martha Franzen, Howard Whigham, Judi Schreiner, and David Whigham.
