Lois Lucille Shunk, 82, of Newton died on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East. A celebration of both her life and her son Kevin’s will be held from 2-6 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League in Newton.
Lois, the daughter of Maurice and Aletha (Walker) Woody, was born on March 27, 1944, in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1962. After high school, Lois was a waitress at Mason’s Café. On June 28, 1964, Lois was united in marriage with Glenn Shunk at the Full Gospel Church in Newton. For many years, she was a self-employed house cleaner. She loved the Lord and had attended the First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed collecting dolls and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Lois is survived by her husband, Glenn Shunk of Newton; son, Kenneth Shunk (Kim Howell) of Corning; her grandchildren, Sara (Coy) Penning, Elizabeth (Shannon) Gear, Frankie Rice, Trevor Shunk, and Jessie (Tori) Shunk; great-grandchildren, Marshall Penning, Max Penning, Madalyn Teed, Nathaniel Teed, Gerald McDaniels, Victoria McDaniels, Carter Purvis, Serenity Rice, Greyson Rice, and Kayson Rice; her siblings, Leonard (Becky) Woody and LaVonne (Dan) Perkins, both of Newton; brother-in-law, John Metz; and several niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin Shunk; her great-grandson, Blake Penning; and a sister, Leona Metz.
