Lonnie, the son of Richard and Darlene (Dodson) White, was born on November 14, 1948 in Lancaster, Missouri. He grew up in the Moulton, Iowa area and graduated from Moulton-Udell High School.  On March 25, 1967, Lonnie was united in marriage with Peggy Harvey in Unionville, Missouri. They lived in Burlington for a short time before moving to Newton, where Lonnie would begin his career at the Maytag Company. He later became the UAW Local 997 Union Representative at Maytag for six years and then the President for five years. During that time, he helped form the UAW Appliance Council and served as the Council’s President for a number of years.  Lonnie then transitioned to the International Staff where he served on the International UAW in Region 4 as a Servicing Representative for 12 years. This is the job he was most proud of as he liked helping the members of the locals he served.

Lonnie served as Precinct Chair for the Democratic Party for many years and even used he and Peggy’s home as the Precinct Headquarters. He was an active member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, serving as a Board Member and the Recording Secretary. As part of the Ike’s, he also received the Judge Tobin Award, Walter Reuther Award and the Douglas Frazier Award. Lonnie loved to turkey and deer hunt, especially with his best friend and brother, Greg Swihart and go fishing with his friends and family, especially Todd, Parker, and Libby. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and youth softball, reading, playing poker at the Ike’s, watching movies, card nights with his family, and visiting friends. Lonnie loved being around family and believed that family was the most important thing a person could have in life.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Peggy White of Newton; children, Todd White (Lori Hewett) of Newton, Melissa “Missy” White of Newton, and Stacey (Mark) Jackson of California; his grandchildren, Parker White, Libby White, Kaitlee Jackson, Kamela Jackson, and Claudia Jackson; triplet great-grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy (James) Douglas of Newton and Donna Long of Mt.
