Lori Jean Griffin, 65, of Newton died on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, at the Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Lori’s name (checks to Jayme Griffin) may be left at the funeral home.
Lori, the daughter of Robert and Carol (Flege) Carter, was born on March 10, 1961, in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1979. Lori worked for many years in the Deli at Hy-Vee. She had fun participating in a Hot Dog Eating Contest while at Hy-Vee. Lori loved her cat “Lil Miss”. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed reading.
Lori is survived by her spouse, Brad Breckenridge; children, Jacob (Stephanie) Ham of Bondurant, Jared Griffin of Waukee, and Jayme Griffin of Newton; grandchildren, Carter, McKinley, Paisley, Kason, Mercy, Messiah, and Josiah; her siblings, Jim (Josie) Carter, Jeni Wickliff (Dave Thomasson), and Lorri French; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bobby Carter; and a sister, Lisa Carter.
