Lyle Duane Purvis, 79, of Newton died on Monday, June 29, 2026, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Lyle, the son of Forrest and Ione (Eaton) Purvis, was born on March 11, 1947, in Newton. He grew up in Kellogg and graduated from Newton High School in 1966. In 1967, he began his 36-year career in the mailroom at the Maytag Company, retiring on June 30, 2003. Lyle was a huge fan of NASCAR and a season ticket holder at the Iowa Speedway. He also was a member of NRA and liked owning guns. Lyle watched many different shows including storm chasing, ghost adventures, home renovations, and the Grand Ole Opry.
Lyle is survived by his two nephews, Doug (Kyndra) Purvis and David Purvis; niece, Kim (Keith) Mueller; three great-nephews, Colton Cook, Tyrell Purvis, and Kordell Mueller; great-niece, Kinzi Mueller; and a great-great-niece, Allison Mueller. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lewis “Louie” Purvis and Larry Purvis; niece-in-law, Diane Purvis; and a great-nephew, Tyler Purvis.
