Marie L. VandeWeerd Hardenbrook, the daughter of Brunis and Bertha Kingma VandeWeerd was born on February 24, 1929 in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School in 1947.

On March 31, 1948, Marie was united in marriage with Dan M. Hardenbrook at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. They were blessed with three children, Janet, Joyce and Jim. Marie was a homemaker and church organist for 50+ years. She was a member of the Newton First Assembly of God Church. Marie as the church organist played for the morning and evening services, plus mid-week services and many weeks of revivals. She accompanied soloists and guest musicians, played for countless weddings and funerals, including as a regular accompanist for the Wallace Funeral Home at their prior downtown location. In her earlier days, Marie and her sister, Elizabeth would play duets on their Hawaiian guitars. Growing up, Marie was a big help to her dad on the farm, driving tractors and rounding up the dairy cows. She could speak a decent amount of Dutch and Marie will be remembered for making each Christmas and Easter family gathering a very special event.

Marie went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2020, at her home in Park Centre in Newton, with her children at her side. She was 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dan in 2014; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Emil Gerard.

Those left to cherish Marie’s memory are her children, Janet E. Hardenbrook of Newton, Joyce E. (David) Beckham of Newton and Jim M. (Angie) Hardenbrook of Galesburg; nine grandchildren, Lisa Pearson of Orchard, Nebraska, Amy Trease of Kearney, Nebraska, Lynnzi (Will Ruimveld) Trease of Orchard, Nebraska, Jared (Erin) Beckham of Ames, Jonathan (Madison Campbell) Beckham of Ankeny, Courtney Beckham of Ankeny, Justin Hardenbrook of Clarion, Alexis Hardenbrook of Galesburg and Joshua Hardenbrook of Galesburg; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Lusk, Andrew Pearson, Rylee Durant, Alizayah Ruimveld, Oliver Beckham and James Beckham.
