Marilyn Marie (Stewart) Butler

Marilyn Marie Butler, 85, of Newton died on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Newton Village.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.  Memorials to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church may be left at the funeral home.

Marilyn, the daughter of Thomas and Geraldine (Wood) Stewart, was born on October 6, 1940, in Ellston.  As a young child her family moved to Newton. Marilyn attended Newton Community Schools and graduated from Newton High School in the Class of 1958.  On July 3, 1958, Marilyn was united in marriage with Earl Butler in Newton.  Marilyn was a devoted mother to their son, Mark.  Marilyn was one of the first employees hired at Pyramid, Inc. in Newton.  Her career there spanned many decades. At the time of her retirement, she was working as a Production Supervisor. Marilyn enjoyed reading, camping, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.  She also loved getting together with friends to go out for lunch or watch “Wheel of Fortune”. Marilyn loved her grand-dogs, Smoky (now deceased) and Tito.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Mark Butler of Newton; siblings, Gary (Kay) Stewart of North Carolina, Larry (Peney) Stewart of Newton, Chuck (Sherry) Stewart of Altoona, and Mary (Tony) Denato of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in 2020; daughter-in-law, Jane Butler; and a brother, Bill Stewart.
