Marilyn JoAnn Gilpin, 63, of Newton died on Friday, February 27, 2026, at CHI Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials in Marilyn’s name (checks to Margaret Lambertus) may be left at the funeral home.
Marilyn, the daughter of John and JoAnn (Diggins) Gilpin, was born on August 12, 1962, in Iowa City. She grew up in Reasnor and attended school in Van Meter. Marilyn worked for and was a part of the Progress Industries family in Newton. She loved animals, especially kittens. Marilyn enjoyed movies, coloring books, and playing games.
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Margaret Lambertus of Newton; nephews, Lucas (Scena) Gilpin of Council Bluffs and Jerry Lambertus of Newton; great nieces and nephews, Sky Valdez, Ava Gilpin, Joaley Schaffer, Claira Gilpin, and Thomas Gilpin; her uncles, Billy Gilpin of Washington and Pat Gilpin of Houston, Texas; and an aunt, Mary A. Mitchell of Roxboro, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thomas Gilpin and Robert Gilpin; nephew, Isaac Gilpin; her aunt, Cecilia Gilpin; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
