Obituary

Marilyn Lou Gragg, 76, of Mitchellville, died on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at her home. A private family graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery.  Memorials in Marilyn’s name (checks made payable to Chelsie Gragg) may be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  

Marilyn, the daughter of Forest and Susanna (Daniel) Kephart, was born on September 6, 1943 in Newton.  She grew up in Newton and later lived in Reasnor and Des Moines.  On December 27, 1973, Marilyn was united in marriage with Robert E. Gragg in Marshalltown.  In 1985, they moved to Mitchellville.  Marilyn worked for many years at Cozad Dry Cleaners in Newton. She later did other odd jobs before becoming a homemaker.  Marilyn enjoyed scrapbooking, quilting, camping, playing cards, dancing, canning, cooking, and making Christmas candy.  She also enjoyed spending time with her family and her great fur babies.  Marilyn liked listening to country music, having parties and loved sharing a good laugh with friends and family. 

Marilyn is survived by her children, Terry (Lisa) Gragg of Newton, Jolean Gragg of Mitchellville, Robert “Bugs” Gragg of Newton, and Dwayne Gragg of Newton; grandchildren, Brandon Gragg, Chelsie Gragg (Jay Eisbrenner), Ryan Beals, Kayla Gragg (John Forck), Chaz Gragg, and Elijah Hammer; her great-grandchildren, Justin and Madison Hawkins, Jaiden and Drake Eisbrenner, and Rylan and Lala Gragg; siblings, Kenny (Linda) Kephart of Missouri, Eldon (Janet) Kephart of Brooklyn, and Sharon (Marvin) Van Sickle of Newton; and her nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Gragg in 2006; a sister, Carolyn Vander Schel; and brother, Vernon Kephart.
