Obituary

 Martha Sue Ellsworth, 88, of Newton died on Thursday, June 2, 2022. No services are scheduled at this time.  Memorials in Martha’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Martha, the daughter of John R. and Mary (Floyd) Binkley, Jr., was born on November 5, 1933 in Bloomington, Indiana. Her family later moved to Petersburg, Illinois where she graduated from high school. Martha then received her elementary education degree from Iowa State Teacher’s College.  On December 23, 1961, Martha was united in marriage with Dale E. Ellsworth in Des Moines. They would make their home in Newton from 1961-1968 when they moved to Kellogg.  Martha was a 2nd/3rd grade teacher at Thomas Jefferson Elementary before staying home to be with her children.  She would later return to the Newton Community School District as the Kellogg Elementary Librarian.  In 2003, Dale and Martha moved back to Newton.  Martha was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She enjoyed cross stitch, quilting, and watching birds and squirrels.  Martha loved spending time with her family and close friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, sister, and friend. 

Those left to honor Martha’s memory are her children, Becky (Mike) Poole of Sully and Fred Ellsworth of Newton; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Ellsworth; daughter, Mary Alice Harrington; and a brother, Mack Binkley.
