Marvin Allen Rea, 65, of Nevada, died on Friday, November 28, 2025, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home. After the service a lunch will be held at the Newton Church of the Way. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marvin’s name may be left at the funeral home (checks made payable to Tami Rea).
Marvin, the son of Matthew and Mildred (Longcor) Rea, was born on October 11, 1960, in Newton. As a child he moved and attended many schools in the southern United States, until moving back to Iowa as a teen. Marvin worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 20 years. On October 21, 1995, Marvin was united in marriage with Tami Bender in Lynnville. They made their home in Killduff for many years before moving to Nevada, Iowa in 2013. The last 3 years, Marvin worked as a carpenter for Flummerfelt Homes out of Nevada.
Marvin was a man of God and an ordained minister and always had one of his multiple Bibles close by. He was a man that stood on his morals and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, or just having a cup a coffee with Tami out on their deck that Marvin had built himself. Marvin was a talented cook. He loved to dance and would dance his way through daily activities and then ask Tami to critique his moves with a “How ya like that ma?”
Marvin and Tami also enjoyed NASCAR racing and had traveled to several racetracks. On Saturday and Sundays, Marvin could be heard cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Green Bay Packers. Of all his interests, his biggest love was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the joy of his life.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Tami Rea of Nevada; children, Jacob (Anna) Rea of Johnston, Zachariah (Nicole) Rea of Galesburg, Sarah (Casey) O’Dell of Minburn, Shanna (Daniel) Leuer of Nevada, and James (Mindy) Rea of Nevada; 21 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his mother, Mildred Rea of Nevada; and two brothers, Michael (Cindy) Rea and Montgomery Rea, both of Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Rea in 2016.
