Mary Ellen (Burkhardt) Jenkins

Mary Ellen Jenkins, 76, of Newton died on Monday, September 29, 2025, at her home.  No services are scheduled at this time. 

Mary was born on October 11, 1948, in Chewelah, Washington to John and Florine (Shults) Burkhardt. In 1979, Mary moved to Newton, Iowa.  She worked for many years in the factory at the Maytag Company. Mary was united in marriage with Theodore Jenkins in Newton.

Mary had a huge heart and a great sense of humor. She loved being outdoor doing yard work, watching birds, and flower gardening.  Mary’s Christian faith showed in her caring for and working with older people.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Nathan Crane of Florida and John Crane of Newton; grandchildren, Jayden Crane, Olivia Crane, Audrina Crane, and Aniston Crane; and her siblings, Duane, Leta, Neva, Beverly, and Jerry.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodore; and a brother, Don.
