Melissa “Missy” Ann Kolpin, 54, of Newton died on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A celebration of Missy’s life will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, December 9, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Missy’s name (checks made payable to Catelyn Trotter) may be left at the funeral home.
Missy, the daughter of Gary and Carol (Crabtree) Adams,was born on October 8, 1969 in Grinnell. She grew up in Newton with her parents and bonus parents, Paul Johnson and Laurie Adams. In 1988, Missy graduated from Newton High School. She was united in marriage with Corey Kolpin and they were blessed with two children, Catelyn and Chase. Missy had worked for Progress Industries and Intoxalock. Missy had a love for being outdoors in the sun; whether it be sunsitting, swimming, gardening, or reading a book outside. She also was an avid football fan and enjoyed cheering on (sometimes loudly) the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys. Missy enjoyed all types of music and liked a good sing-a-long. Most of all though, Missy loved being a Mimi and spending time with her family and large group of friends.
Missy is survived by her children, Catelyn (Sid) Trotter of Newton and Chase Kolpin (Logan Hauber) of Newton; grandson, Owen Trotter; her mom, Carol (Paul) Johnson of Newton; dad, Gary (Laurie) Adams of Idaho; her siblings, Jason (Jennifer) Adams of Newton, Lisa (Jason) Jackson of Texas, Job (Mina) Johnson of West Des Moines, Travis (Kimberly) Adams of Idaho, Justin (Jess) Adams of Idaho, Ashley Adams of Idaho, Clayton Adams of Idaho, and Elizabeth Adams of Idaho; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and a brother Curtis Adams.
