Michael Ray McGhghy, 63, of Newton died on Monday, January 11, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Monday, January 18, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Michael’s name may be left at the funeral home.
Michael, the son of Oscar and Erma (Ross) McGhghy, was born on May 23, 1957 in Iowa City. He grew up in the Des Moines area. Michael was a jack of all trades and had worked as a mechanic at car dealerships and also as a truck driver. As an adult he lived in Ottumwa, Kansas City and for the past 15 years in Newton. Michael enjoyed playing solitaire, fishing, and cheering on the Vikings and NASCAR.
Michael is survived by his wife, Tammi Hubbard of Newton; children, Cheyenne Marie McGhghy (fiancé, Dakota St. Pierre) of Newton and Christian McGhghy of Newton; grandchildren, Zaya Marie St. Pierre and Bennington St. Pierre; his siblings, Diane Lemke of Lancaster, Missouri, Daniel (Mikkey) McGhghy of Ottumwa, Joann (Walden) Leck of Ottumwa, David McGhghy of Newton, and Timothy (Melissa) McGhghy of Des Moines; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Christopher McGhghy in infancy.
