Michael "Mike" D. Petersen

Michael “Mike” D. Petersen, 71, of Newton died on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Valley Vista in Newton.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials to St. Croix Hospice or NAMI may be left at the funeral home.

Mike, the son of Milo and Darlene (Merrill) Petersen, was born on September 20, 1954, in Atlantic, Iowa.  He grew up and attended schools in Atlantic and then Colfax.  Mike served his country in the U.S. Marines.  After his discharge, he returned to Central Iowa and worked at AMF in Des Moines.  Later, he would move to Newton and be a part of the Progress Industries and Optimae Life Services families.  Mike was creative and always enjoyed writing and drawing.  He had a deep connection with music and loved Rock n’ Roll; especially KISS.

Mike is survived by his sister, Vicky (Mike) Harmison of Bushnell, Florida; nephew, Jason Pink of Newton; niece, Amenda (Brad) Van Brogen of Newton; their children, Austen, Devon, and Kyler Van Brogen; all of Newton; and several cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
