Nellie Elizabeth (Green) Davis, 96, of Newton died on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at her home with her family by her side. Services will be held at a later date.
Nellie, the daughter of Earnest and Zelma (Kirk) Green, was born on October 17, 1927 in Galt, Missouri. As a child she moved to Newton with her family. She graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1945. Nellie went to work at Maytag in the office and retired with 30.3 years of service in Product Distribution. Nellie was united in marriage with Charles O. Davis on December 31, 1958 in Newton.
Nellie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton. Nellie liked needle work, making Christmas gifts for friends, travel, camping, and family vacations. She also liked gardening and tending to her flower gardens. She enjoyed relaxing on her patio, admiring her flowers and feeding the robins, cardinals, squirrels, and rabbits.
Nellie is survived by her son, Mark Davis and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles O. Davis; and sister, Alice Lucille Gilbert; brother-in-law, Cliff Gilbert; and nephew, Marty Gilbert.
Donations in Nellie’s name may be left to the Salvation Army of Newton, these can be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
