Norma Jean (Kruse) Johnston
November 12, 1938 ~ November 13, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old
Norma Jean Johnston, 85, of Newton died on Monday, November 13, 2023 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A private family gathering will be held. Memorials in Norma’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Norma, the daughter of Bud and Jean (Criswell) Kruse, was born on November 12, 1938 in Omaha. She grew up and graduated from high school in the Omaha area. In the late 1970’s, Norma moved to Newton where she would own the Johnston Corporation; specializing in compressor repair. After closing the business and retiring, Norma still wanted to keep busy and did in-home health care for area people in need of those services. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and a supporter of St Jude Children’s Hospital. Norma was a talented painter and also enjoyed growing and designing flowers. She had a love of animals; especially butterflies and liked to play solitaire.
Norma is survived by her children, Danny (Alicia) Margritz of Omaha, Nebraska, Deb Wiens of Omaha, Diane Abrahms of Guthrie Center, Dennis Margaritz of Branson, Missouri, Dorothy Cottrell of Newton, and Darlene “Katie” (Michael) Jensen of Guthrie Center; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Connie Markise of Omaha and John (Darlene) Kruse of Ohio; and close family friends, Tom Handeland, Sr., T.J. Handeland, Joel Handeland, and Jared Handeland. She is preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Timothy Cottrell.
