Norman Everett Dille, 91, of Newton died on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 11-1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Immediately following a graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Masks are required and social distancing measures will be enforced. Memorials to the Iowa Archeological Society may be left at the funeral home.
Norman, the son of Alfred and Gladys (Pote) Dille, was born on July 22, 1929 in Grinnell. He grew up in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1947. Norman served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1951-1953. He then earned a Bachelor of Tool Engineering degree from Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago. Norman would return to Iowa, making his home in Newton and working as a Tool Engineer at the Maytag Company for 37 years, retiring in 1994. Norman was married to Eleanor Grimsbo and they were blessed with four children, Bruce, Laura, Wayne, and Rachel.
Norman was a member of the Iowa Archeological Society and the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and took and taught Judo. Norman was an avid arrowhead hunter and collector and had done extensive family genealogy research through the years.
Norman is survived by his four children, Bruce Dille of Conyers, Georgia, Laura Patton of West Des Moines, Wayne (Karla) Dille of Des Moines, and Rachel (Alex) Palomo of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren, Lee (Sara) Patton, Allen (Kori) Patton, Jenna Dille, Ryan Dille, Jake Palomo, and Logan Palomo; and four great-granddaughters, Kaylee, Lela, Everlee, and Rollins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Jesse Patton.
