Pamela Gail Deaton Czerwiec, age 75, passed away on January 9th, 2026, at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown surrounded by family. She fought cancer with the determination she brought towards every challenge in her life.
Born on October 9th, 1950, to Delbert and Dorothy Deaton in Newton Iowa, Pamela spent her early years in the Midwest attending and graduating from Newton High school in 1968. Pamela met the love of her life while in high school. She attended and graduated cosmetology school in Des Moines, Iowa. This was around the time that Pamela reached out to that special someone and informed him she had waited long enough to get married. Michael Leroy Czerwiec and Pamela were married November 18, 1969. Together they started a family and moved to Monroe, Iowa to raise their children.
Pamela dedicated 25 years of service to Blue Cross Blue Shield before retiring. When Michael retired from Maytag, the couple embraced a new chapter in their lives by relocating to Florida. This was a move that reflected their shared sense of adventure and desire for sunshine over snow in the winter. They settled in Orlando to be close to another shared passion, Walt Disney World and all things Disney. Their home became a showcase of past and present Disney treasures complete with a pool that these two non-swimmers enjoyed daily. Their children called this oasis the perfect vacation spot. Pam and Mike obtained jobs at Disney World and Sea World respectively. Days off were spent traveling the world at Epcot enjoying exotic meals, submerging themselves in Star Wars culture at Hollywood Studios, exploring the wilds of Africa at the Animal Kingdom theme park, and saying HI! to Mickey at the Magic Kingdom while getting their dose of Cinderella’s Castle.
This perfectly imperfect marriage spanned 56 years of love, laughter, and raucous family time. Together they raised two children: Michelle Engle (husband Fred) and Michael Czerwiec (husband Al). Pamela found immense joy in her family and proudly watched it grow. She was a devoted grandmother to Emmeline Timm (husband Dillon) as well as Zach Huffaker (wife Maddy). Her legacy continues with her cherished great grandchildren: Jovie and Clara Timm, and Myles Huffaker. Pam’s biggest wish was to introduce these three littles to the Disney lifestyle. She was able to fulfill this dream by taking the families to Florida this year and showing them around her favorite places.
In recent years, Pamela and Michael moved back to Iowa. A lifelong lover of books, Pamela cultivated a personal library that she graciously shared with her devoted husband. Together they formed an exclusive book club membership of only two. Pam would spend hours and hours reading under her gazebo. When not reading, she was relaxing while listening to the laughter of her great grandchildren running around the yard playing under her favorite tree. Myles kept these doting Greats entertained almost daily.
Pamela’s passing has left all who loved her with fond memories. She will be tremendously missed always by her adoring family. Pamela is survived by the above family along with two sisters: Debbie McNeeley, Brenda Hansen and one brother, Tim (wife Wanda) Deaton. Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, numerous extended family members, and friends who had cemented places in her heart. There is no service but there will be a celebration of life in the spring once the flowers have bloomed. Pam had no desire to drag anyone out in this horrible winter weather.
