Paul Eugene Goodwin, 95, of Newton died on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Valley Vista Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the funeral home.  A graveside service with miliary honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.  Memorials to the American Legion Post 111 to be used for a Korean Veteran’s Meal may be left at the funeral home.

Paul, the son of Clarence and Olive (Kelly) Goodwin, was born on May 22, 1930, in Washington, Iowa.  He grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1948.  Paul served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from December of 1948 to June of 1952.  On November 29, 1951, Paul was united in marriage with Marjorie Raymond and they were blessed with three children. They lived in Davenport where Paul worked for 7-Up and owned a grocery store and later moved to Walker, Minnesota where Paul would combine his love of fishing and his entrepreneurial spirit by owning a lake resort and a bowling alley. Following their divorce, Paul returned to Iowa and worked for the Pamida Stores all over the Midwest.  He also had a passion for flipping homes.  Paul would eventually work as a custodian at the Hardin County Courthouse in Eldora, Iowa, retiring in 1992.  That same year, he was united in marriage with Marilyn Lawler.  In the late 1990’s, they made their home in Newton.  In retirement, Paul worked for Winnebago, delivering motor homes around the United States.  Following Marilyn’s death, Paul married Jackie (Meier) Woods on May 6, 2017, in Newton. Paul was a member of the American Legion.  He enjoyed traveling and playing cards, but his favorite pastime was always fishing.

Paul is survived by his wife, Jackie Goodwin of Newton; children, Andrea Bloomquist, Paula Gibbons, and William (Theresa) Goodwin; grandchildren, Tisha, Tonya, Jess, Kirsten, Ted, and Grace; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Darlene Funston.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn Goodwin; and siblings, Clifford Goodwin, Wahnetta Lendt, Clarence Goodwin, Jr., and Ardella Harvey.
