Phil W. Pearson, 80, of Newton died on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Accura HealthCare of Newton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home and again after the service with a lunch. Memorials in Phil’s name (checks payable to David Pearson) may be left at the funeral home.
Phil, the son of Frank and Velma (Warner) Pearson, was born June 13, 1943, in Newton. On October 20, 1972, Phil was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandie” Dage at the Newton New Life Community Church of the Nazarene. He was a lifelong resident of Newton and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed going to coffee with friends every Wednesday morning and fishing. At different points in Phil’s life, he worked at his father’s drugstore, Pearson’s Drug, owned a barbershop, and in the paint and prime line and sheet metal department at Maytag where he retired after 27 years.
Phil is survived by his children, David (Karen) Pearson, Philip Pearson, Jeff Pearson, and Jennifer Pearson; grandson, Adrian Brown; sisters-in-law, Nancy Dage and Pam Small; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra “Sandie” Pearson in 2017; parents-in-law, Floyd and Evelyn Dage; and his uncle, Cecil Warner.
