Richard Funk

   Richard Funk, 82, of Newton, died Friday, October 18, 2024, at Traditions Memory Care in Newton. No services are scheduled. 

   Richard, the son of Bernel and Leona (Grandstaff) Funk, was born, June 28, 1942, in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1960.  Richard was united in marriage with Saundra Trotter on August 26, 1960, in Newton.  Richard worked as a machinist at Cline Tool for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, doing work in his yard, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team and the Green Bay Packers.

   Richard is survived by his 5 sons:  Gary Funk, Eric (Chrisann) Funk, Scott Funk (Molly Sikora), Joe (Carrie) Funk, and Ryan Funk (Jodi Wilske); his grandchildren:  Kylee (Andrew) Blaker, Justin (Wai) Funk, Josh (Lisa) Funk, Keenan Funk, Garrett Funk, and Dawson Goecke; 4 great-grandchildren: Hayden, Henry, Leah, and Jackson; his sister, Judy Leavens; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Saundra; brother, Kenneth Funk; and a sister, Marylyn Porter.
