Richard "Dick" Temple Obituary

Richard “Dick” Glen Temple, 80, of Newton died on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 7, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to DaVita Dialysis Center may be left at the funeral home.

Dick, the son of Robert Glen and Dorothy Irene (Matheny) Temple, was born on May 2, 1940 in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1958. On November 26, 1966, Dick was united in marriage with Sharon Booth in Bethany, Missouri. Dick first drove truck for McWhirter and K-Line trucking. In 1971, Dick began working at Bisom Truck Line in Newton.  Dick and Sharon lived in Colfax for many years. While living there, Dick was on the fire department as an EMT and the auxiliary police department. In 1983, they moved to Texas where they would live until 1987. In Texas, Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  Upon returning to Iowa in 1987, they made their home in Newton. Dick went back to work for Bisom until his retirement in 2007.  After retirement he continued to drive for I-80 Farms. Dick loved old cars and built many from the ground up.  He also enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon Temple of Newton; children, Kirk Temple of Fort Dodge, Kevin (Tammie) Temple of Queens Creek, Arizona, Randy (Andrea) Temple of Colfax, and Melonie (Michael) Robuck of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Steven, Ryan, Robbie, Randy, Chelsey, Conner, Alexia, Derrik, Jordyn, and Taylor; many great-grandchildren; and his brother, Darrel (Judy) Temple of Azle, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Holly, in infancy; and his sister, Dixie (Steve) Decker.
