Rita A. Kanne Hannagan, 72, of Newton died on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Newton Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials to Suncrest Hospice or the Newton Health Care Activities Fund may be left at the funeral home.
Rita, the daughter of Gene and Ruth (Townsend) Hannagan, was born on September 18, 1952, in Logansport, Indiana. As a child, Rita and her family moved to Iowa but would return to Indiana from time to time. She attended school in Monroe and Newton and later received her Culinary Arts certificate from ISU. Rita worked as a cook for the County Care Facility and then in a group home for Progress Industries. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Rita is survived by her children, Albert (Sheree) Esqueda of Kellogg, Andrew (Becky) Esqueda, Sr. of Baxter, and Arleigh Esqueda of Newton; grandchildren, Haley (Anthony) Lincoln, Andrew Esqueda, Jr., James Esqueda, and Nate Esqueda; her great-grandchildren, Ryder Esqueda and Annaka Lincoln; and siblings, Diane (Larry) Krier of Marion and Ed (Cindy) Hannagan of Emmetsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adelbert Kanne; and sister, Linda Smith.
