Rita Sue (Maggard) Milligan

Rita Sue (Maggard) Milligan, 79, of Mingo, died on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Taylor House in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Ashton Chapel in Mingo, followed by burial at Union Chapel Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to either Ashton Chapel or Taylor House may be left at the church the day of the service or at the funeral home.

Rita, the daughter of Robert and June (Campbell) Maggard, was born on March 18, 1945 at her home in Goddard, Iowa. On July 10, 1964, Rita was united in marriage with Larry Milligan at Ashton Chapel. After high school, she worked in production at Newton Manufacturing before she and Larry began the Milligan DX Garage in Baxter. For the past 35 years, Rita had worked for her son as a bookkeeper at Milligan Automotive. She was a member of Ashton Chapel and loved sports and Jesus.

Rita is survived by her children, Jill Milligan (Ryan Van Maaren), John (Rhonda) Milligan, and Jeff (Melissa) Milligan; and grandchildren, Haley Wickenkamp and Emma Wickenkamp. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Milligan in 2020; and brother, Richard Maggard.
