Robert C. Grimes, 50, of Marshalltown died on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Newton Union Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Robert’s name (checks made payable to Randy Grimes) may be left at the funeral home.
Robert, the son of Randy and Pamela (Wilson) Grimes, was born on June 28, 1971 in Davenport. He grew up in Lynnville and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1990. Robert was united in marriage with Katina Gross-Rhode in March of 1997 at the Wittemberg Church in rural Newton. He lived in Searsboro and for the last 10 years in Marshalltown. Robert had worked for Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel at the hotel reservation desk for over six years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and making and flying model airplanes. He also loved his cats.
Robert if survived by his parents, Randy and Pam Grimes of South Dakota; son, Nathan Grimes-Van Cleave of Nebraska City, Nebraska; brothers, Richard (Anita) Grimes of Des Moines and Michael Grimes of Lincoln, Nebraska; his maternal grandmother, Madeline Wilson of Newton; one niece; one nephew; and one great-niece. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Wilma Grimes and maternal grandfather, Kendall Wilson.
