Obituary

Robert “Bob” Leroy McMahon, 70, of Newton died on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at his home. A burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Bob’s name (checks to Hilary McMahon) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Bob the son of Leland H. and Betty (Vansice) McMahon, was born on April 28, 1953.  He grew up in Jasper County and graduated from Baxter High School. Bob then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972. Throughout his life, Bob lived between Texas and Iowa. In both places, he worked as a truck driver.  He was a past member of the Izaak Walton League and enjoyed building model cars.  He also loved cats.

Bob is survived by his two daughters, Mya (Patrick) Martin and Hilary McMahon, both of Des Moines; a granddaughter, Gemma Stevens; his mother, Betty McMahon of Des Moines; and sister, Bonnie Butler of Missouri.  He was preceded in death by his father, Leland McMahon; and two brothers, James “Jim” McMahon and Jerry McMahon.
