Rodd Wayne Hoagland, 58, died Sunday, June 21, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, at the funeral home. Memorials in Rodd’s name can be left at the funeral home. Please make checks payable to Sherry Bishop.
Rodd, the son of Ralph Laverne Hoagland and Sherry Fae (Geurts) Bishop, was born January 20, 1968, in Newton. He grew up in Lynnville and then in rural Monroe, attending Monroe schools. From a young age, Rodd had a talent for repairing things. He had been known to take his toys apart just to put them back together. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school—mainly playing football and wrestling. He also loved hunting and fishing in his younger years.
Rodd loved working on cars and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He worked as a mechanic at Car Country, Doug’s 4-Wheelers, and as a self-employed mechanic. He played the drums and also enjoyed playing guitar. He was also a skilled foosball player. Rodd never hesitated to help others in any way he could. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with Liam, Ryker, and Charlee.
Rodd is survived by his mother, Sherry Bishop of Iowa City; his brother, Todd Hoagland of Coralville; his half-brother, Rich Samuelson; his niece, Chloe Hoagland; a nephew, Sabin De Joode; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, R.L. “Bud” Hoagland; two brothers, Thadd Hoagland and Chadd Hoagland; his grandparents, Melvin and Iris Geurts and Ralph and Johanna Hoagland; and his cousin, Charlie Cupples.
