Roger Wayne Hinshaw, 81, of Newton, died on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the American Lung Association may be left at the funeral home.
Roger, the son of Homer and Velma (Johnson) Hinshaw, was born on January 10, 1944, in Newton. He grew up in Kellogg and graduated from Newton High School in 1962. He then received a 4-year degree from Morningside College. After living in various communities around Iowa, Roger moved back to Newton in the early 1990s. In 1992, he was united in marriage with Joan DeGreef Renaud at the Ashton Chapel. They made their home in Newton. Roger worked at the Maytag Call Center for several years. After retirement, he continued working part-time for the Newton Community School District for over 16 years as a para-pro, retiring at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. He was a member of the Kellogg Masonic Lodge. Roger loved to read, watch sports on tv, and sneak out for a quick trip to Hy-Vee. He was also known to always have a Coca-Cola in his hand.
Roger is survived by his wife, Joan Hinshaw of Newton; children, Tony Renaud of Newton, Missy (Doug) Miller of Newton, and Robin (Shari) Hinshaw Blake; his daughter-in-law, Dawn Foreman-Renaud of Newton; grandchildren, Alex Miller (Ceonna Chandler) and Nathan Miller; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary Hinshaw, Robert Hinshaw, and Gerald Hinshaw; and a sister, Betty Modlin.
