Roland Daniel "Dan" James

Roland Daniel “Dan” James, 67, of Newton died on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Valley Vista Nursing Home and Rehab. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Dan, the son of William and Bernice (Walton) James, was born on August 19, 1959, in Newton.  He attended Newton High School in the Class of 1978. Dan worked at various factories and at Barney’s.  In 1998, Dan moved to Owatonna, Minnesota where he worked for Truth Hardware.

Dan enjoyed tinkering with motors, fishing, flea markets, and motorcycles.  In 2024, he moved back to Newton.

Dan is survived by his son, Adam James of Newton; grandson, Mathias Rodgers; stepchildren, Randy Birkenholtz of Colfax and Kelli Logan of Minnesota; and his siblings, Roger James of Tennessee, Randy James of Kellogg, and Lori (Darren) Mathes of Newton.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
