Saundra Jean Funk, 82, of Newton died on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorials to the Jasper County Courthouse Christmas Lighting Fund may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Saundra, the daughter of David and Clarice (McWhirter) Trotter, was born on September 17, 1941 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1959. Saundra was united in marriage with Richard Funk on August 26, 1960 at the Baptist Church in Newton. She worked for many years at Newton Manufacturing and later for the Maytag Company, retiring as a buyer in 2003. Saundra’s whole world revolved around her family; especially her five boys and grandchildren.
Saundra is survived by her husband, Richard Funk of Newton; sons, Gary Funk of Altoona, Eric (Chrisann) Funk of Newton, Scott Funk (Molly Sikora) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Joe (Carrie) Funk of Milford, and Ryan Funk (Jodi Wilske) of Marinette, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Kylee (Andrew) Blaker, Justin (Wai) Funk, Josh (Lisa) Funk, Keenan Funk, Garrett Funk, and Dawson Goecke; her four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Henry, Leah, and Jaxson; and a brother, Rick Trotter of Rock Creek. Saundra was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Mike Trotter and Doug (Anita “Toots”) Trotter.
