Sherri L. Breckenridge, 70, of Monroe died on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Mercy West Lakes in West Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends after the service. Memorials in Sherri’s name (checks to Brian Breckenridge) may be left at the funeral home.
Sherri, the daughter of Henry Ver Ploeg and Joan Nicholson was born on May 19, 1955, in Ottumwa, Iowa. As a child she lived in San Francisco, California and Crofton, Kentucky before moving back to Iowa. Sherri graduated from Knoxville High School and attended DMACC. She worked for over 30 years as a 911 Dispatcher in Jasper County. Sherri was an active member of the AFCME Union. She loved animals. Sherri enjoyed crafting, having garage sales, and gardening.
Sherri is survived by her children, Brian (Melissa) Breckenridge of Newton and Scott Breckenridge of Hiawatha and grandchildren, Samantha Breckenrdige, Emilie Sparks, and Rowan Breckenridge. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Ver Ploeg; mother and step-father, Joan and Richard Peters; and her maternal grandmother who raised her, Thelma Nicholson.
