Shirlene M. Davis, 89, of Newton died on Monday, March 2, 2020, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory with a lunch to follow the service. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, March 5, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League or the Newton Elks Lodge may be left at the funeral home.
Shirlene, the daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Thomas) Stanford, was born on March 10, 1930 in Montezuma. She grew up in Montezuma and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1948. On August 22, 1948, Shirlene was united in marriage with Wilbur Davis in Oskaloosa. After Wilbur was discharged from the service, they made their home in Newton. Shirlene was a homemaker and helped her husband in their service station. Shirlene was a member of the Women of the Moose. She and Wilbur enjoyed wintering in Florida for 25 years. Shirlene loved to go shopping, be out in the sunshine, and spend time with her family. She was a fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed animals; especially her poodles.
Shirlene is survived by her husband, Wilbur Davis of Newton; daughter, Rhonda Davis of Newton; grandson, Justin (Tara) Dodge of Waukee; great-grandchildren, Jared and Jaden Dodge; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ralph Stanford, Jr.
