Sid Dean Smith

Sid Dean Smith, 64, of Newton died on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sid’s family (checks made payable to Deana Smith) may be left at the funeral home.

Sid, the son of William Glen and Arless (Dow) Smith, was born on October 18, 1955 in Newton.  He graduated from Newton High School in 1973 and served his country in the U.S. Army for 17 years. Sid was united in marriage with Linda Dodd in the spring of 1979 in Massachusetts.  Sid later received his Associates Degree in Business from DMACC.  Sid worked for many years in the Surgical Department at Skiff Medical Center.  Most recently he was a sales associate in the Auto Center at Wal-Mart.  Sid loved his 13 cats and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Sid is survived by his children, Deana Smith of West Des Moines, Amber (Mike) Loventinsky of Wellman, and Eric Smith of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Zach, Deegan, and Eric Eddy and Brooklynn, Maddison, Ryan, and Ethan Loventinsky; and the mother of his children, Linda K. Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Smith.
