Susan Kay (Bernier) Storms

Susan Kay Storms, 69, of Newton died on Thursday, September 14, 2023. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorials to an Animal Rescue League of the donor’s choice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Susan, the daughter of James and Kathleen (O’Reilly) Bernier, was born on January 22, 1954 near Ojai, California. She graduated from Ojai High School and then received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in San Diego, California. Susan worked in California as a LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse). She later moved to Payson, Arizona, where she loved her job at the Mazatzal Casino.  For the last 15 years, Susan has lived in Newton, Iowa. Susan has always been a jack of all trades and a talented artist.  She could make anything from playhouses to Christmas decorations to Halloween and dress up day costumes. Everything she made and did was to make those around her smile. Susan loved animals and worked tirelessly as a volunteer for many area animal rescues.  She was also an active member of the United Congregational Church of Christ in Newton.

Susan is survived by her children, Kathleen Snyder of Portland, Oregon and Julia Snyder (Britni) of Murrieta, California; grandchildren, Gigi Bayus, Andre Bayus, and McKenna Litchenberg; her brother, Chris (Yvonne) Bernier of Indianapolis, Indiana; her beloved cat, Miss Petunia; and granddogs, Koji, O’Reilly, Kaipo, Mabel-Finch, and Tiger. She was preceded in death by her parents.
